Over 14,000 Meals Provided to Those in Need Locally
Belleville— December 15, 2020 Yesterday some members of the Rotary Club of Belleville and Friends of Rotary helped deliver Kid’s Against Hunger meals to Belleville for distribution.
“Working with Gleaners Food Bank Belleville and the Quinte United Way allowed us to quickly distribute these much-needed meals” said Cory MacKay, Vice President of the Rotary Club of Belleville and Co-Chair of the Kid’s Against Hunger Committee.

Positive Community Impact – Locally and Internationally

Many families locally will benefit from this effort as over 14,472 meals were delivered to Quinte United Way Agencies and their community partners, including North Hastings Community Cupboard, Community Care for Seniors, Care North Hastings, North Hastings Community Trust, Bridge Street United Church Food Ministry and Gleaners Food Bank working with the Quinte Regional Food Share Shelter.

The balance of the meals provided by the Rotary Club of Belleville will be shipped to Haiti to assist with on-going health and humanitarian needs. With classrooms closed, some 300,000 children are missing daily school meals, putting them at risk of stunted growth, according to the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

Kid’s Against Hunger Canada, a registered Canadian humanitarian charity, is committed to engage Canadians, especially youth, in helping to feed those who are hungry, malnourished and starving in Canada and around the world.

“Volunteers packing food for Kids Against Hunger couldn’t happen this year because of COVID” said Club Past President Kelly McKinney, “We were able to have I Heartland Insurance contribute, and my wife Deb and I wanted to help make this happen.” Club President Tim McKinney and his wife Judy McKinney also contributed that helped make this year’s Kid’s Against Hunger program the most successful year ever for the Club.

A convoy of cars packed with food left Peterborough yesterday and agencies will be picking up meals today.
